Project team - IÖW

The Institute for Ecological Economy Research (IÖW)

The IÖW is a leading scientific institute in the field of practice-oriented sustainability research. It devises strategies and approaches for viable, long-term economic activity – for an economy which enables a good life and preserves natural resources.

For over 25 years, scientists at the IÖW have been tackling the challenges of sustainable development and seeking new, often unconventional answers to today’s questions about tomorrow: questions about sustainable corporate management, climate-friendly energy systems, new technologies, sustainable consumption or environmental policy and governance.

The IÖW excels in its research projects through trans-disciplinary and practical work. Research design and methods are individually tailored to each project. The IÖW team of scientists consists of economists and sociologists, engineers and natural scientists.

The Institute conducts around 40 research projects per year for sponsors and clients from various sectors of society, such as public institutions, companies, associations and foundations. As an independent institute, the IÖW receives no basic public funding and finances itself exclusively from third-party funds for research projects. In addition to its main office in Berlin, the IÖW has an office in Heidelberg.
